Final week of the semester from h*ll!! There are a few more things for you to round off the semester, and I hope to see all of you in our final class in Thursday’s Zoom session.
I would like you to write one final reflection, which you can either post on your blog (category HST259), or share as a google doc (if you feel it’s too personal for public consumption). I have two prompts for you. Choose one, and write about 300 words, more if you feel you have more to say. Please submit with all other assignments by May 4. Consider this a brief task filed under “Thoughtful participation in the learning commons”.
- Option 1. What did you learn in this course, in terms of “History of Korea”? Try to go beyond a simple list of things, and think about big trends, long-term developments; what surprised you; what will stick with you; what will you share with others? What do you think everybody should know about this aspect of Korean history?
- Option 2: This course fulfills a HDGE (DE, “Human Difference and Global Engagement) GAR. How did this course help to “broaden and deepen [your] understanding of human difference and to develop the intellectual and civic skills students require for participation in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world?” (The official description in the course catalog of the DE requirement).
Schedule: April 27-April 30
- Saturday April 25 through Wednesday April 30: peer feedback on the chapters you were assigned. Check the Google Sheet to see whose chapters you’re looking at, and leave feedback (see video) using the text box.
- Monday: Optional reflection on the materials from week 14 (e.g. if you are still short of the 11 reflections listed in the syllabus)
- Wednesday: Zoom session 11.30am (pink header link on Canvas Homepage): please try to be there! We’ll look back on the course, and figure out together how to make this a better course.
-
-
- What are the top 3 texts you think everybody should read? Which texts can you live without? What was missing? Do you have tips for finding materials about that topic?
- I plan to make lots of changes, so I need your input.
- Should we keep this textbook (Seth), find a different one, or just get rid of the textbook altogether?
- IDEA course evaluation
- Recording can be found on the Canvas page with recordings.
- Link to the Pad (if you want to contribute to future course development; anonymous)
-
-
- Thursday: Final project bite 7: second draft, on Pressbooks.
- And that’s it! I remain available for consultation on your assignments until May 4, when everything is due.
What do you need to submit?
- 11 weekly reflections, as specified in the syllabus, on your blog in category HST259
- One final chapter/project in Pressbooks (check out the Mini-guide)
-
-
- Contributor’s Agreement for your chapter to appear in the public version online, in print etc.
-
-
- The final reflection on what you learned in this course (see top of page), either as a blog post (Category HST259) or as a shared Google doc.
All work due by May 4, 11.59pm. Extensions available via email request; Incomplete grades available via email request. (Incomplete = you get more time to finish your assignments due to circumstances beyond your control, for instance a pandemic 🤷♀️. You will get a letter grade after submitting your work, and this semester you can change that to P/F.)
Last day to withdraw from courses (W) or request an Incomplete (I): April 30!
